In relation to Jack Tretton's PS3 pricedrop announcement yesterday at Gamescom 2011, Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong has officially announced the price drop for the PS3 in the Philippines, and for the rest of Asia. Details after the jump!
In an press release from SCEH, Sony announced its plan to reduce the price of both 160GB and 320GB PS3 sold in the Philippines. Currently, the 160GB PS3 is sold at an SRP of Php 17,999, while the 320GB PS3 retails for Php 18,999 in the Philippines. The price drop, which will take effect next week on Aug. 22, 2011, will cut the SRP of both units by Php 2,000, effectively dropping the SRP of the 160GB PS3 to Php 15,999, and the 320GB PS3 to Php 16,999.
The rest of Asia will also be enjoying the price drop starting Aug. 22, 2011. In Hong Kong, the 160GB PS3 will now be sold for HK$2,080, while the 320GB PS3 will now retail for HK$2,230. In Malaysia, the 160GB PS3 and 320GB SRP will be reduced to MYR1,029 and MYR1,079 respectively. In Singapore, the 160GB and the 320GB versions will now retail for SGD 399 and SGD 429 respectively.
Thailand will now be selling the 160GB unit for THB 12,990, and the 320GB unit for THB 13,490. Indonesia retailers will also be reducing the price of the 160GB and 320GB PS3's to IDR 3,299,000 and IDR 3,499,000 respectively.
Other retailers in the Philippines are already selling the PS3 way below the SRP set by Sony, so I'm quite excited how these retailers will respond to the price drop. Anyway, we'll look into it soon, so stay tuned for updates!
