News: New Nintendo Console Will Be Unveiled On E3 2011

Finally, Nintendo breaks its silence regarding its new console.

In an investor note, Nintendo will be revealing the successor to the Wii in the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo this coming June 7-9, 2011 in Los Angeles, California. Not only will they be unveiling the unit, it will also be playable! According also to the note, the console will be scheduled for launch this coming 2012.

You might be wondering why I haven't been writing any news about this upcoming console. It's not that I don't like the Wii, it's just that these past few weeks, only rumors and hearsay riddle the interwebs regarding the console. Anyway here's what we've learned so far:
  • The successor is called under various names: Wii 2, Wii HD, Nintendo HD, and Project Cafe.
  • The controller will be a tablet like device, sporting a 6" touch screen display, dual analog sticks, and the ability to stream content directly from the console.
  • Several sources cite that the console will be more powerful than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
  • It will be backwards compatible to Wii software.
  • Can display in HD and in Stereoscopic 3D (for those with 3D TV's)
So what could be next for Nintendo? Will it revolutionize gaming like what it did with the Wii? Until E3, we could only wait.
