Good news PlayStation gamers! Kazuo Hirai, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO has just announced that the first phase of the restoration of the PSN and Qriocity services is now on its way, so if you're aching for some online action, now is your chance to grab the update. More details after the jump!
Kazuo Hirai announced May 14, 2011 (May 15 here in the Philippines), that the first phase of the restoration is now ongoing, and software update 3.61 is now ready for download directly on your PS3, or on your PC. And as part of the security upgrade, users will be required to change their PSN account password in order to access the network upon updating the system software.
If you're planning to update your PS3 via USB flash drive, here are the links to the updates. Just click the region of your PS3.
On your USB flash drive, create a folder named “PS3” on the storage media or USB device. Within the PS3 folder, create a folder named “UPDATE”. Save the update file in the "UPDATE" folder as “PS3UPDAT.PUP”. Plug the device to the PS3, and go to the settings menu on the home menu / XMB. Select system update, and select the "Update via Storage Media".
As for going online, services across all countries and states are currently being turned on, so if you're trying to go online, you may still be greeted with a "PSN Maintenance" notice. If you're in the U.S., click here to check whether PSN on your state has been turned on.
Check out this post from time to time for more updates! See you online!
